Personnel Services
IQSS plans and directs a comprehensive program of human resource management for all affiliates. Our services are available to individual affiliates as well as to programs under the IQSS umbrella.
Our HR team has detailed knowledge of FAS and Central HR policies and practicies. For faculty affiliates who hold their finances within us, we can serve as the interface between you and Central HR, handling all of your personnel transactions. Typical HR issues include processing academic appointments, hiring undergraduate and graduate students, processing visas for foreign visitors, drafting contracts with off-campus contractors, obtaining short-term Harvard IDs for visitors, implementing performance management systems, managing employee relations, and assisting with change management issues. We can also help answer questions regarding benefits, employment status, work/life balance, professional development and learning, compensation and performance reviews, training, hiring practices, leaves of absence, and harassment or discrimination concerns.
The IQSS HR services allow you to focus your resources and energy on scholarly activities rather than on time-consuming transactional and processing issues related to personnel. You can leave those to us with confidence.

Finance Services
IQSS offers faculty affiliates comprehensive management of their research finances across all funding sources such as gifts, endowments, departmental funds and sponsored grants.
Our finance team will work closely with you to optimize your financial resources. We can help you develop spending strategies to appropriately allocate expenses across multiple funding sources, developing budgets that estimate the full costs of a project or a program. We create customized financial reports that suit your individual needs and prepare forecasts to track spending rates. We also process all financial transactions such as reimbursements, corporate card payments and invoices, in addition to managing payroll for personnel paid from research funding. These services are all provided while ensuring compliance with University and sponsor policies and working closely with the University’s financial administration.
Though not a requirement of our services, we prefer to consolidate all of a faculty member’s funding sources under IQSS management in order to provide streamlined support of an entire portfolio of funds.
Although these services apply to all funding sources, sponsored funding often requires special attention. Please visit our Grants Administration page for more information on the services offered for managing sponsored funding.

Event Planning
Conferences, workshops and seminars serve as a vital connection between researchers and their potential collaborators, critics and students. Managing the logistics for such events, however, can be challenging. IQSS can help.
Our professional event planner works with affiliates to prepare for and run events of all sizes and scope. We can help you reserve rooms and equipment, cater food and beverages, facilitate travel arrangements for visitors, and prepare materials for the conference itself (name tags, programs, welcome packets for out-of-town participants, etc.). We will track your expenditures and manage to whatever budget you have in place. We also meet regularly with you throughout the planning process to ensure a stress-free, organized event.
