The research of Viridiana Rios, PhD candidate and IQSS affiliate, was featured in an article by the Los Angeles Times for her findings on the origins of Mexico's drug-related violence. Using Amelia, a tool developed at the Institute for Quantitative Social Science, she provided the first empirical evidence that increments in violence precede enforcement operations conducted by Mexican federal authorities rather than, as it has been argued before, being a cause of them
