IQSS affiliates have the unique opportunity to work and learn in a dynamic environment that fosters collaboration and supports endeavors across the vast social science spectrum.
To become an IQSS affiliate you must be a Harvard faculty member, a current graduate or undergraduate student at Harvard University, or an outside visitor sponsored by an IQSS faculty affiliate.
All Harvard faculty members who participate in IQSS activities (seminars, workshops, events, etc.) are automatically considered affiliates and need not apply formally. If you notice that you have not been listed on our web site, please contact us and we will update our site.
If you are a graduate student interested in becoming an affiliate, please have a current faculty affiliate send a recommendation on your behalf to Breean Fortier, Executive Director, at execdir@iq.harvard.edu.
All affiliates are expected to actively contribute to the life of the IQSS community. For this reason, non-Harvard scholars are generally not permitted to become affiliates unless they are local (temporarily or permanently), actively collaborating with a faculty affiliate on a research program, or are a recent graduate of Harvard. If you are a non-Harvard scholar interested in becoming an affiliate, please have a current faculty affiliate submit a recommendation explaining your research collaboration, IQSS participation, and more to execdir@iq.harvard.edu.
As an IQSS affiliate, you are eligible for a broad range of benefits. You are invited to participate in additional conferences, workshops and events. You are given access to the HMDC Research Computing Environment (RCE) and our high-powered cluster computing resources. We can host your research team's web site or email accounts.
Our finance and HR teams are able to support your research team's on-going efforts. We can provide assistance with your grant development and submission process. You are also eligible to apply for the funds that IQSS offers in support of research, conferences and travel. Limited space opportunities are sometimes available, but even if we cannot physically accomodate you, affiliates are welcome to work in our public labs and to take advantage of our basic office infrastructure. As an affiliate you also receive regular communication from us, reminding you about upcoming events and opportunities.
IQSS is open to suggestions and ideas that can help broaden our educational opportunities, keep our technology current, and maintain the highest quality of services.
If you think we can enhance the scope of our community offerings in any of our service areas we urge you to contact us with your suggestions and input. We encourage dialog in all areas of IQSS, and no idea is too small to bring to our attention.
Thank you for helping us do our best to provide you with the services you need.
