Researchers sometimes require dedicated equipment to run their complex applications and analyses.  For most scientists, we can meet even large data storage and computing power needs through our Dataverse Network, Research Computing Environment and Cluster Computing tools.  In extreme cases, however, this may not be sufficient to meet your individual needs.

If you require your own personal equipment, our experts at the Harvard-MIT Data Center can help.  We have experience identifying the right hardware for the job, and can help you negotiate the lowest possible prices with the best warranties.  We can also host your servers in our enterprise-level data center. This facility featrues generator-backed redundant power, fire suppression, cooling, and keycard security. Services available include network storage, service monitoring, remote administration, and backups.

Research Data Hosting

The Research Computing Environment (RCE) offers you an externally-hosted, secure location in which to store your research data. This tool enables you to access your data from any personal computer with an internet connection, and also supplies a user-friendly, graphical interface that comprises the persistent desktop environment.

Alternately, our powerful and popular IQSS Dataverse Network repository enables researchers to share and archive their research data once it is in its more final form.  This open source software created by IQSS gives you the ability to easily upload and permanently archive your data, while also allowing you to retail complete control over who may access your data, how it is cataloged and if or when it should be removed from circulation. In addition, the Dataverse Network has designed a system that lets other researchers find and cite your data, increasing scholarly recognition for your research. You upload the data and we store it, free of charge.
