In the summer of 2005, The Institute moved into the newly constructed
Sidney R. Knafel Building at 1737 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, Mass. This complex includes two new buildings on either side of Cambridge Street and several existing frame houses which will accommodate The Institute, the Government Department, and a number of related research centers. This beautiful facility offers a state of the art lecture hall, class and meeting rooms, library and computer facilities, faculty and administrative offices, as well as a café and interior garden.
The Institute for Quantitative Social Science occupies the third floor of the North building, as well as portions of the Concourse and the South building. The signature feature of IQSS space is the continuous whiteboard that covers the 3rd floor hallway, where scholars pour out of seminar rooms and their offices into the halls to collaborate.
Computer Facilities
Because the Harvard-MIT Data Center is an Institute member, the Institute is able to support a robust PC-based computer network with connectivity to campus-wide networks as well as to the more specialized servers and platforms run by the Data Center. The HMDC hosts an open computer lab for Institute affiliates on the third floor of the Knafel Building . Computer support and technology options are expansive and are described in detail on
HMDC web site.
