The Institute is home to a talented and diverse group of graduate associates from different disciplines. It welcomes graduate students from any of Harvard's doctoral or professional programs. To be considered as a Graduate Associate, students must be nominated via a letter of support from an active Faculty Associate of The Institute. Faculty Associates should send nominations to The Institute's Executive Director, Cathy Gorodentsev. Graduate Associates may request residence at The Institute, with access to a desk and computer workstation, access to our high speed and high capacity computing environment, as well as a modest discretionary budget for telecommunications, duplication and mailing, and office/research supplies. Graduate Associates are invited to participate in all Institute proceedings and are eligible to apply for programmatic funding.
Research Grant
Graduate Associates may apply for limited funding to support their approved and active research programs. These funds may supplement other grant programs, and may be used for a wide-variety of purposes including undergraduate research assistance wages, supplies, technical services, and printing and publication costs. Graduate Associates that receive research grants are expected to conduct a significant aspect of their research at the Institute and, when ready, to present their work at one or more of our scheduled seminars. Graduate Associates may apply for research grants by filling out The Institute Graduate Student Funding Application, which is submitted to the Executive Director for review. Applications must be received by April 1 for award in September. Applicants will be notified of decisions by late April.
Travel Grants
Travel grants are available to Institute Graduate Associates to support travel to participate in a professional conference relevant to their research. These limited funds vary in amount and are designed to supplement the costs not paid for by your home department. They may be used in combination with other travel or grant funds. Travel grant recipients must be Graduate Associates of the Institute. To apply for travel funds, please submit The Institute Graduate Student Funding Application, along with a research abstract and conference program to the Executive Director. Travel grants are awarded on a rolling basis.
IQSS does not offer Dissertation Completion Grants specifically, and encourages students to apply for graduate funding at any stage of their research.
