IQSS Forms New Research Computing for the Social Sciences Group

FAS Dean Mike Smith announced on Tuesday, October 6, a plan to consolidate research computing functions within the Division of Social Sciences into a single entity, to be maintained under the auspice of IQSS. The new Research Computing for the Social Sciences (RCSS) group ultimately reports to the Dean of the Division of Social Science via Gary King, Director of IQSS. RCSS was conceived as a means to take advantage of resources throughout FAS Social Sciences to ameliorate the effects of cost cutting while maintaining the high-quality technical services that play an ever increasing role in social science research. RCSS will leverage the basic services offered by FAS IT as well as the extensive technical and specialized support services currently available in IQSS.

An outline of the implementation plan for the RCSS group is available on the IQSS web site, including some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that detail how the changes will impact FAS departments, faculty, and staff. It is the goal to complete implementation by December, 2010.
