Jason Ur Appointed CGA Faculty Director

As of October 1, 2014, Jason Ur, Professor of Archaeology in the Department of Anthropology, has been appointed the Director of the Center for Geographic Analysis (CGA). He will also chair the CGA Faculty Steering Committee.

Ur studies the origins and development of cities and empires in the Middle East and their landscape impacts, using satellite remote sensing, mobile GIS-based field survey, and geospatial analysis. He has directed research projects in Syria, Turkey, and Iran. He currently leads the Erbil Plain Archaeological Survey in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, which is investigating six millennia of settlement and land use history in northern Mesopotamia.
