IQSS Affiliate Bridges Communities

The IQSS community of social scientists includes members from within Harvard University and from many external institutions. One IQSS faculty affiliate bridges several social science programs at multiple institutions. In 2002 Mahzarin Banaji came to Harvard as Richard Clarke Cabot Professor of Social Ethics in the Department of Psychology.

Recent Study Assesses Mexican Health Insurance Program

A recent study assessed the success of Seguro Popular, a program designed to provide health care coverage to 50 million Mexicans for whom the cost of health care would otherwise be devastating.  The study was headed by Professor Gary King, along with seven of his current and former students and IQSS affiliates, and several researchers from Mexico.

New Graduate Student Working Paper Series

In response to requests from our graduate student affiliates, we are pleased to announce the introduction of the new IQSS Graduate Student Working Paper series.  This series is intended to provide graduate student affiliates with an opportunity to obtain feedback from colleagues on their recent work for eventual publication.

Stephen Ansolabehere Testifies Before Senate Rules Committee

Professor Stephen Ansolabehere was called before the Senate Rules Committee to testify about the latest wave of the Cooperative Congressional Election Study, which revealed that a significant proportion of the electorate continues to be disenfranchised due to problems with voter registration and election administration.

Need Advice? Ask a Neighbor

In "The Surprising Power of Neighborly Advice," Professor Daniel Gilbert concludes that "(i) people can more accurately predict their affective reactions to a future event when they know how a neighbor in their social network reacted to the event than when they know about the event itself, and (ii) people do not believe this."

Literature Contributes to Criminal Remediation

The Changing Lives Through Literature (CLTL) program requires criminal offenders to read and discuss literature, engaging with professors, judges, and probation officers to study literature that centers on themes of violence, poverty, identity, and abuse as an alternative to more punitive sentencing practices. CEGRP: Using GIS Technology to Analyze a Disaster
