Daniel Koretz is a Professor in the Graduate School of Education, where he teaches educational measurement. His research focuses primarily on large-scale assessment, particularly as it is used in educational accountability systems. A major focus of his work has been the validity of score gains in high-stakes testing programs and the effects of these programs on educational practice. His current work focuses on new methods for distinguishing meaningful gains from score inflation and on the design of accountability systems to improve the incentives faced by teachers. His other recent research has examined the assessment of students with disabilities, international comparisons of the variability of student performance, the uses of tests in college admissions, and measurement issues in value-added modeling of student performance. His research interests also include education policy and the social context of education.

Dr. Koretz obtained his Ph.D. in developmental psychology from Cornell University.
