Joachim Wehner is Senior Lecturer in Public Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and a member of the Political Science and Political Economy (PSPE) research group. He obtained a PhD in Government from the LSE in 2007, following studies at the Free University Berlin, and the Universities of Cape Town and Stellenbosch. Joachim previously worked at the Institute for Democracy in South Africa (Idasa), and as a consultant for the World Bank and the OECD. Recent articles appear in Comparative Political Studies and the European Journal of Political Research, and he is the author of “Legislatures and the Budget Process: The Myth of Fiscal Control” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2010). At IQSS, Joachim works with Prof. Jim Alt on a study of the political and institutional determinants of creative accounting in the European Union and other countries. Further current research interests include the personal characteristics of economic policymakers in OECD countries, and the effect of democratization on service delivery in South Africa.
