Julia Finkelstein

Julia joins us from the Harvard School of Public Health, where she is a doctoral student in Nutrition and Epidemiology. She first explored spatial analysis as part of her Masters degree at Brown University, where she focused her thesis on examining the global burden of schistosomiasis. Her research with Dr. Wafaie Fawzi at HSPH focuses on nutritional and tropical infectious disease epidemiology in sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on HIV in Tanzania. Julia is assisting Ben Lewis with the AfricaMap project, compiling available spatial and non-spatial data for the continent of Africa, with a focus on health. She hopes to be able to integrate spatial analysis, available disease burden data, and epidemiological methods in a novel approach to analyzing complex linkages between nutrition and disease in sub-Saharan Africa.
