Katherine Gallagher

Katherine Gallagher is a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science at the University of Michigan and is in residence at IQSS for Spring 2009. A two-time recipient of the Gerald R. Ford Dissertation Fellowship, her dissertation examines how the formation of political ambition influences strategic decision-making across social groups with a specific focus on race and gender. Gallagher has a forthcoming article with Nancy Burns in the Annual Review of Political Science on gender and public opinion and a number of working papers on female candidates. Her research has been funded by the Institute for Research on Women and Gender and the Rackham Graduate School at the University of Michigan. She is a member of the American and Midwest Political Science Associations. Prior to graduate school, Gallagher worked as an organizer for California Public Interest Research Group at the University of California, San Diego. During her tenure, Gallagher trained hundreds of volunteers and dozens of interns to research public interest issues. Gallagher was a Monroe Scholar at the College of William and Mary and graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Government in 2002.
