Kenneth A. Shepsle is the George D. Markham Professor of Government. He is the author or co-author of: Politics in Plural Societies: A Theory of Democratic Instability; The Giant Jigsaw Puzzle: Democratic Committee Assignments in the Modern House; Models of Multiparty Electoral Competition; Making and Breaking Governments; American Government: Power and Purpose; Analyzing Politics. He has edited or co-edited: The Congressional Budget Process: Some Views From the Inside; Political Equilibrium; Perspectives on Positive Political Economy; Cabinet Ministers and Parliamentary Government. He has authored numerous articles on formal political theory, congressional politics, public policy, and political economy. He has been a National Fellow at the Hoover Institution, a Fellow of the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, and a Guggenheim Fellow. He was editor of "Public Choice" from 1975 to 1980. In 1990 he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His current research emphasizes formal models of political institutions, especially as it applied to the interface between politics, intergenerational political economy, and demography.
