## Today's speaker

Laura Royden, "Antisemitic attitudes (and attitudes about antisemitism) after 10/7"

## Abstract

Prior research has shown that antisemitic attitudes in the U.S. are significantly more prevalent on the far right and generally increase along the left-right ideological spectrum (Hersh & Royden, 2022). However, other work suggests that many Americans do not have particularly entrenched feelings about Jews (Cohen, 2024), so attitudes may not be firm. This project examines how both antisemitic attitudes and attitudes toward antisemitism have shifted following the October 7 attacks and the subsequent months of heightened relevance of antisemitism in American political discourse, particularly by Republican elites. Specifically, I’m looking at whether the ideological patterns of these attitudes have changed in response to the new polarized salience of antisemitism. At APRW, I'll talk a bit about relevant prior work and how I'm framing this theoretically, explain potential mechanisms that could be driving attitudinal changes, talk about survey questions, and some challenges.

*The American Politics Research Workshop (Gov 3004) meets all academic year, Tuesdays, 12:00–2:00 PM, in CGIS K354. This workshop presents an opportunity for graduate students and Harvard faculty to present and receive feedback on their current research. The workshop highlights key theoretical and empirical findings from Harvard affiliates on topics related to American politics.*

*All interested Harvard affiliates are invited to attend.*
