IQSS' center for crowd-sourced problem solving has been recently relaunched as the Crowd Innovation Laboratory (CIL).

Formerly known as the NASA Tournament Lab, the [CIL](http://projects.iq.harvard.edu/crowdinnovationlab/home)’s mission at IQSS is to work closely with partner organizations to solve their real-world innovation problems and simultaneously make progress towards understanding the foundational economic, managerial and organizational issues that predict success in working with crowds. The CIL was established in partnership with NASA and TopCoder (an online innovation contest platform) in 2010, and since then has extended this partnership model to include institutions such as Harvard Medical School and NASA’s Center for Collaborative Innovation (including several other federal agencies). Since its founding, the CIL has collaborated on and completed over 700 discrete innovation challenges for a range of scientific and technical tasks. Anyone interested in participating in a CIL challenge has a new opportunity in the [NASA Quest for Quakes](https://www.topcoder.com/blog/make-a-difference-win-prizes-in-nasas-quest-for-quakes/) contest:

*Data scientists, it’s time to gear up for a high-stakes Marathon Match. We’re bringing you the opportunity to compete for $25k in prizes while number crunching for some truly incredible organizations. NASA, Quakefinder, Harvard Crowd Innovation Lab, and Amazon Web Services — in partnership with the topcoder community — are running a two-week Marathon Match to create an algorithm to search terabytes of data and identify electromagnetic signals that have been detected days to weeks before some moderate to large earthquakes.*
