Hanna is a PhD student in Sociology. Originally from New Haven, CT, she graduated from Princeton in 2011 with a concentration in Sociology and a certificate in American Studies.
As an undergraduate, she conducted quantitative research that examined the ways in which a single police stop – even in the absence of clear evidence of wrongdoing – can diminish young people’s sense of control over their own lives. Following graduation, Hanna put this research to practice at two New York-based nonprofit organizations, where she provided direct legal and social services to court-involved youth.

As a graduate student, she has expanded her research to include work on fatal encounters with police, variation in police departments' structure and function, campus policing, and interactions among police, youth, and their families.  A mixed-methods scholar, Hanna is delighted to enhance her quantitative skills through affiliation with IQSS.
