Before IQSS, Len was Engineering Manager for the [High Performance Computing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-performance_computing) group at [Sun Microsystems](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_Microsystems), leading the teams developing the [Sun HPC ClusterTools](https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-540-68564-7_1) and [Sun Studio Performance Analyzer](http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19205-01/819-5264/) products. In that role, he actively supported the [Open MPI](http://www.open-mpi.org/) open-source community. Before entering a management role, Len held software engineering roles at various companies, including [Sun/Oracle](http://www.oracle.com/us/sun/index.htm), [Acopia Networks](https://www.networkworld.com/article/824134/data-center-f5-networks-to-acquire-acopia-networks.html) (acquired by F5 Networks), and [Thinking Machines](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thinking_Machines_Corporation) (acquired by Sun). His primary technical interests have been in developing algorithms and file systems for parallel and distributed computers. Len is a native Philadelphian with a B.A. in mathematics and computer science from the [Honors Program](https://www.lasalle.edu/honors-program/) at [LaSalle University](https://catalog.lasalle.edu/undergraduate/arts-sciences/mathematics-computer-science/) and a Ph.D. in computer science from [Dartmouth College](https://web.cs.dartmouth.edu/).
