Three-Dimensional GIS

1:00pm to 3:00pm

Location:

B129, Northwest Building, 52 Oxford St, Cambridge
REGISTER NON-HARVARD REGISTER Instructor: Paul Cote It is now common for municipalities to collect data about the heights and three-dimensional shape of buildings. These data, along with terrain models and two-dimensional groundplan information makes it possible to use GIS to create useful three-dimensional models of large areas. These models may be used to visualize design scenarios, as a contextual framework for sensor networks and many other applications. Participants in this workshop will learn to render GIS data in 3D and to perform studies of visual connectivity.

Worldmap Training

1:00pm to 3:00pm

Location:

52 Oxford Street, Northwest Building B129
The Center for Geographic Analysis is developing WorldMap (http://worldmap.harvard.edu/), an open source platform designed to encourage collaboration between researchers who need access to geospatial information. Despite the many ways in which research materials can now be accessed and shared across the web, the methods suitable for geospatial materials lag. The reasons are many and interconnected: 1) the sparse implementation of standards, 2) the size and complexity of geospatial datasets, 3) the lack of a platform to support geospatial collaboration that is easy to access, 4) the lack of an...
