Director
Gary King, Albert J. Weatherhead III University Professor, is the founder and Director of the Institute for Quantitative Social Science.
Executive Director
As Executive Director, Breean Fortier is responsible for the overall strategic, programmatic, financial, and personnel management of IQSS and its related programs. In this capacity, Breean also oversees the day-to-day operations and administrative activities at IQSS, including grants management, fundraising, budgeting, space planning, human resources, and communications.
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee for IQSS comprises a highly talented and diverse set of faculty from across the University. Members of the Steering Committee are appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in consultation with the Institute Director. The Steering Committee advises the Director and staff concerning the direction and administration of IQSS.
Faculty Associates
IQSS has more than seventy faculty affiliates from across the Harvard community and remains dedicated to maintaining an open and collaborative intellectual environment. No formal invitation or sponsorship is required to participate in our activities or to take advantage of our resources. In fact, we treat all social science faculty from across the university as ex-officio members of our intellectual community. If we see you participating, we will (automatically) call you an affiliate. This helps us facilitate communication across the active faculty community and lets us better support your research. Visiting Scholars and Fellows
Visiting scholars, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty from other universities can benefit from participation in a variety of IQSS activities, including open research seminars, roundtables, collaborative activities with community organizations, and social events. Fellows and visitors must have a Harvard faculty sponsor, who is responsible for submitting a recommendation of affilition that includes name of visitor, expected dates of visit, nature of research, and how IQSS can help. Graduate Students
The IQSS is home to a large population of Harvard’s graduate students. Nominated by our Faculty Associates, graduate students may request mentoring, space, computer and technical support, and other benefits from their affiliation with IQSS. Undergraduates
Undergraduates interested in learning more about quantitative tools for analysis can become a part of the IQSS community. One opportunity is the Undergraduate Scholars Program, where Harvard College undergraduates participate in the Institute's ongoing research.
