Speaker

Robert Spang, M.Sc.

Abstract

This presentation will provide an academic overview of a comprehensive study conducted on mobility among older adults in rural Germany, together with the Charité University Hospital Berlin. The emphasis will be on the technological frameworks and analytical methodologies utilized for assessing participant mobility. Central to this research is a novel algorithm, designed by Robert, for the precise analysis of GPS data. This methodology has further applications, exemplified by its use in diverse projects, including the CGA's "Out of Eden Walk" project.

The presentation will highlight the broader implications and capabilities of GPS technology in gauging human mobility, behavior, and related health determinants, encompassing both physiological and psychological parameters.

Speaker Bio

Currently serving as a Visiting Scholar at the CGA, Robert Spang holds an active position at the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, where he engages in both teaching and research. He is on the verge of completing his PhD in an intersection of Computer Science and Psychology, where he has delved into the relationship between individual differences and Quality of Experience (QoE). Previously Robert has earned a Master's degree in Psychological Science, specializing in neuroscience, from the University of Glasgow, UK.

With a special interest in sensor-based assessments, Robert applies these in both stationary and mobile contexts to decipher patterns in human perception and behavior. His research extends to the application of cognitive modeling techniques and geo-spatial analysis in the examination of human mobility and behavior. His current focus lies on using mobility as an indicator of psychological and physical health, aiming to develop applications in rehabilitation and prevention.

Lunch will be served to those in attendance.
