Aakaash Rao studies social norms and social learning, with a particular interest in the role of ideology and political identity. In current work, he is examining the role of "excuses" in normalizing public expression of stigmatized views, the consequences of political ideology for the success of public programs, social dynamics among Chinese college students in the United States, and "groupthink" and political mobilization in India.
