Andrew Chung

Andrew G.W. Chung (AB ’99) is the Founder and Managing Partner of 1955 Capital, where he focuses on the venture translation of breakthrough scientific discoveries into scalable, real-world impact across health, climate, education, and computational innovation. His work centers on bridging the gap between frontier innovation—often originating in academia or public research—and large-scale commercial deployment.

Over more than two decades as an investor and entrepreneur, Andrew has been associated with companies generating over $30 billion in market value, with early involvement in category-defining companies including QuantumScape, Natera, Nest Labs, Impossible Foods, Personalis, Wattpad, and LanzaTech. Prior to founding 1955 Capital, he was one of six General Partners at Khosla Ventures and previously helped build the cleantech, education, and genomics practices at Lightspeed Venture Partners.

Andrew is an Executive Fellow at the Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS), where his work focuses on Venture Translation and Innovation. His interests include the role of institutional design in accelerating the translation of scientific innovation into societal impact, as well as the relationship between performing arts training and entrepreneurial leadership. Since 2019, he has served on the Dean’s Advisory Cabinet for the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

He has served as a board director or advisor to more than 30 companies, including eight unicorns, and is a recognized voice on sustainability and U.S.–Asia relations, having advised the White House and participated in the Obama Administration’s 2014 U.S.–China trade mission.

Andrew holds an AB in Applied Mathematics from Harvard and an MBA from the Wharton School. At Harvard, he founded the Computer Services business at Harvard Student Agencies, served as Co-President of the Chinese Students Association, and sang with the Harvard Glee Club.
