Anwesha Bhattacharya
Anwesha Bhattacharya is a PhD candidate in Public Policy. Her research lies at the intersection of development economics, political economy, and gender, with a regional focus on India. Anwesha's work explores gendered experiences across several domains. One strand explores the gender gap in the need for and use of mental health services among undergraduate students, aiming to design strategies that increase service uptake and evaluate downstream outcomes of improved mental health care access. Another line of work looks at the persistence of women's political participation under gender quotas and the potential backlash to female leadership. Additionally, she studies the long-term effects of expanding women's access to digital technology on gender norms, labor market outcomes and vulnerability to misinformation.
