Bruce Huang

Dr. Bruce Huang is currently the director of master's degree program in information technology, overseeing five Master of Liberal Arts (ALM) in Extension Studies degree programs, including computer science, cybersecurity, data science, digital media design, and systems engineering.

Dr. Huang is a scholar-practitioner in the field of computer science. As a practitioner, applying scholarly knowledge from his research and advanced education, Dr. Huang developed and brought to life numerous software products at IBM and his tech startups to enable enterprises to test, analyze, and manage the performance and scalability of their mission-critical infrastructure and applications. He was a managing partner and practice executive at IBM Global Services and a VC-backed tech and education entrepreneur. Dr. Huang was named to the 2020 MIT Alumni Association Honor Roll of Service by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr. Huang's academic appointments included:

  • Lecturer at UCLA School of Engineering Master of Engineering and MSOL program
  • Lecturer at UCLA Computer Science Department
  • Lecturer at UCLA International Institute Global Classroom
  • UCLA Extension Academic Department Director
  • Visiting Lecturer at Cornell University's Cornell Tech campus
  • Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Maryland

Dr. Huang taught computer networking and communication protocol courses at the University of Maryland. 

At UCLA, Dr. Huang taught Samueli School of Engineering graduate and undergraduate classes in engineering entrepreneurship, data science, leadership and innovation, computer science, and Master of Engineering capstone. Dr. Huang also created and taught UCLA Extension's data science certificate, which includes courses in introduction to data science, machine learning, exploratory data analysis and visualization, and big data analytics.

At Cornell, Dr. Huang taught modern software development at Cornell Tech to graduate CS, MBA, and LLM students.

At Harvard, Dr. Huang teaches the foundation of data science and engineering, data science and AI ethics, regulations, and laws and guides ALM data science degree candidates on their capstone projects.

His research interests include nontraditional adult learner retention, education policy, data science and artificial intelligence ethics, performance measurements, and software testing.
