Marysol Fernández Harvey

PhD Student in Government and Social Policy, GSAS

Marysol is a PhD student of American and Comparative Politics in the Government and Social Policy Program. She seeks to bridge siloes between US domestic and international scholarship on democratic strengthening. She is interested in literatures on conflict transformation, civil resistance, peacebuilding, and American social movement studies, in exploring an expanded tactical toolbox for combating democratic backsliding and increasing inequality in the United States. She employs a mixed methods approach to the evaluation of the comparative effectiveness across a diversity of tactics and approaches available to civil society actors in protecting and expanding democratic practice.

Prior to Harvard, Marysol worked as a Research and Organizing Fellow at the Horizons Project supporting peacebuilders, activists, and other practitioners in the movement for a just, inclusive democracy. Additionally, she worked as a social impact consultant where I partnered with philanthropic leaders to build funding and capacity building infrastructure in support of movements for lasting systems change.

Marysol received her BA in Economics and Comparative Literature at Brown University and was awarded the national Truman Scholarship for leadership, public service, and academic achievement.
