At a time when Big Data presents professionals in the sciences with massive amounts of information to study, one of the greatest challenges is finding the time and resources to invest in analyzing it all. Karim Lakhani, Lumry Family Associate Professor of Business Administration, has demonstrated how researchers can use crowdsourcing as a fast and efficient resource in data analysis. The Harvard Medical School reports on the collaborative project between the Harvard Business School, Harvard Medical School, and London Business School, in which Lakhani works with TopCoder to demonstrate the crowdsourcing platform's effectiveness in and applicability to science research.

At the Institute for Quantitative Social Science, Lakhani oversees the crowdsourcing research conducted by the NASA Tournament Lab, which works in partnership with TopCoder and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
