Glenn Lopez
Glenn is the Director of Engineering for VPAL (Vice Provost for Advances in Learning) at Harvard. Since 2014, Glenn has developed multi-cloud platform software to address the challenge of connecting teaching and learning data from de-centralized systems across Harvard in a secure, flexible, cost-effective and scalable way. These software engineering efforts have matured throughout the years into a robust cloud data platform infrastructure that powers H.U.D.A.T. (Harvard University Data Aggregation and Transformation System) – a comprehensive centralized database that links critical teaching and learning management systems (LMS) at Harvard. This work has enabled various VPAL/HUIT projects, including Harvard Link, Syllabus Explorer, platform data analytics (HarvardX/Canvas), business/marketing and research.
As the technical lead for a talented team of data scientists and engineers, Glenn is focused on advancing the architectural vision for the VPAL cloud data platform and expanding its core capabilities for future innovative teaching and learning experiences.
Glenn has a total of 15 years of software engineering and systems design experience. He received an M.Eng. degree in Systems Engineering from Cornell University and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of California, Irvine. Prior to Harvard, Glenn worked as a Principal Systems Engineer for 9 years developing embedded software, architecting avionics data bus software interfaces, and implementing avionics data analytics visualization and algorithm simulation software for control systems and image processing algorithms.
His interests outside of work include cooking, playing video games with his son, and Texas hold ‘em poker with friends.
