IQSS supports the research efforts of its affiliated faculty, graduate students and undergraduates via a variety of funding opportunities designed to move the frontiers of social science knowledge. Funding opportunities are available in the categories listed below.
For Faculty
Magaro Peer Pre-Review
A peer pre-review is similar to peer review for a scholarly journal, but faster, more complete, and constructive. Peer pre-reviewers are asked to read the entire paper and make constructive suggestions, wherever they think of something useful, throughout.
Undergraduate Research Scholars Program
The IQSS Undergraduate Research Scholars program is an opportunity for Harvard College students to gain first-hand research experience working with faculty members all across the University.
Extraordinary Claims, Extraordinary Evidence
The ECEE program empowers Harvard faculty, through intensive support from IQSS, to produce social science research that moves the dominant position of the scientific community the farthest distance.
Mindich Encounters with Authors Series
The Eric M. Mindich Encounters with Authors Conference is an opportunity for one or more authors to present a major work still in progress.

Research Grants
Deadline: March 7, 2025 Harvard Graduate student affiliates currently enrolled in a doctoral program may apply for funding to support ongoing or future dissertation research activities.
Dissertation Awards
Deadline: TBA The Henry A. Murray Research Archive is pleased to offer the Jeanne Humphrey Block Dissertation Award to a qualified Ph.D. candidate in the social sciences each spring.
Travel Grants
Deadline: Rolling Travel grants are available to IQSS graduate student affiliates currently enrolled in a doctoral program and are meant to support travel to facilitate presentations at professional conferences relevant to their research.
