Ganesh Sitaraman

I am going to miss his quick wit and clever comments, his kindness and generosity, and of course, his brilliance. Sid was my professor in the spring of my freshman year, and he was so generous with his time when I went in to his office hours with ambitions of writing a paper surveying my old high school on basic civics knowledge. Later that year, he asked me to join his team to work on research for what became the Unheavenly Chorus, and was very glad to code some 30,000 organizations over the next three years. Every week or two when we'd meet to talk, I learned so much about research, and in the years since have learned how rare it is for someone of such extraordinary standing in the field, who had done so much groundbreaking work, to be so wonderful to everyone around him – as a colleague, friend, and mentor. I'm very grateful to have known him and had him as a teacher and mentor.
